Company facts

* The flagship AmTrav brand provides an all-in-one travel management platform that includes proprietary booking tool a2b.

* Operates CheapAir.com, an OTA.

* Sales split of 65% business travel, 29% leisure, 5% other.

* Majority-owned by Jeff Klee and Craig Fichtelberg.

2021 developments

* Began ramping up its traveler-services team again in the summer of 2021. In hindsight, AmTrav said it should have done it sooner.

* Spent a lot of time rethinking human resources. Added more measurements and metrics for employee satisfaction, which AmTrav considers just as important as customer satisfaction.

* Doubled down on what the agency was doing before Covid, looking for innovative ways to use technology and people to reduce friction in business travel.

* To take advantage of the increasing need to bring teams together, AmTrav built a meetings-planning tool and integrated it into the core booking platform.

* To meet the needs of companies hiring workers from afar, AmTrav added guest travel tools to make it easy to invite nonemployees to book their own travel with policies, parameters and payment methods set by the client.

* With sustainability being top of mind and with off-the-shelf carbon-emissions calculators being too generalized, AmTrav built its own to provide actionable emissions data at the point of sale and in post-trip reporting.

* Integrated live chat into Slack and Microsoft Teams so customers can reach out to the travel agency with tools they are already using.

* Added Sabre inventory to complement existing two GDS vendors and four NDC connections.

Looking ahead

* At some point in 2022, AmTrav expects to surpass 2019 monthly booking totals for business travel, albeit with a different mix of clients and trip types.
