A new tour company aims to help travelers dig up their inner paleontologist with a series of dinosaur-focused tours.
Dinosaur Trips is a new small-group and custom-travel tour operator that will launch its first line of tours in Canada this summer, which will center around dinosaur digs, discoveries and expert-driven adventures that provide access to the world of paleontology. The company was founded by Canadian travel journalist Zach Vanasse.
The inaugural itinerary, the 11-night Badlands & Beyond tour, explores fossil-rich Canadian province of Alberta, where travelers will explore Calgary, Drumheller, Dinosaur Provincial Park, Grande Prairie, Wembley, Canmore, Kananaskis and Banff from July 2-13.
Guests will be accompanied by paleontologist Philip Currie, who will lead a hunt for dinosaur bones as part of a four-day fossil dig program that supports the work of the Dinosaur Research Institute, a nonprofit charitable organization funding dinosaur research in Western Canada.
Guests can also expect to visit the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology and participate in other activities, such as horseback riding and spelunking. They can also enjoy the spa services and amenities during a four-night stay at the Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge.
The Badlands & Beyond itinerary can accommodate up to eight guests and rates break down to $1,695 for the four-day fossil dig with the Dinosaur Institute and $4,895 for the remaining eight days of the itinerary.
Dinosaur Trips also plans to launch a seven-day, family-focused version of the Badlands itinerary beginning in the fall that will be able to accommodate up to 16 guests.
