Our 2017 Executive View

In 2016, the travel industry endured a plague of events that, in any other year, could have led to oceans of red ink: early stock-market jitters, Zika, a bitter election and terror attacks in Brussels, Orlando, Istanbul and Nice, France.

If uncertainty was the watchword of 2016, it appears resilience could take its place in January. The year not only ended well for most of the executives with whom we spoke, but they feel the wind at their backs.

Is their rosy outlook justified? Caveats did surface, linked to where business was being conducted, what currency was being collected and how travelers react to the inevitable "unforeseen events."
