• When travel started to return slowly during 2021, JTB continued to engage actively in the market, providing webinars to help stakeholders navigate the new business travel normal and connecting with clients to assist with the restart of travel programs.

• Intensified pursuit of more “worry-free” partnerships, including a transaction-free model.

• Intensified efforts to expand as a global TMC for midsize companies. Integrated the European JTB Business Travel network and more closely collaborated with partners Quickly Travel in Brazil, JTB-CWT in Japan. Grew service hubs in the Asia-Pacific region.

Looking ahead

• Strong recovery, fueled by a full recovery of leisure travel, is expected in 2022.

• Business travel is expected to follow, with domestic reaching 80% to 90% of 2019 levels and international 60% to 70%. Uncertainty about new Covid variants remains, however. 

• New trends are emerging, such as less travel for internal management meetings but more travel for team meetings, as part of the workforce continues to work remotely. A stronger focus on the ROI of travel is leading to increases in advanced bookings, with a need to stack trips and more carefully plan ahead. Trips combining leisure and business travel are more common.
