The site of the Tropicana Las Vegas casino hotel will be home to a Major League Baseball ballpark, thanks to a new binding agreement struck by Tropicana owner Bally's Corp., real estate investment trust Gaming and Leisure Properties Inc. (GLPI) and the Oakland Athletics.

According to Bally's, the ballpark will occupy approximately nine acres of the property’s 35-acre site, which is located at Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue. The ballpark is expected to accommodate 30,000-plus fans. According to reports, plans call for the construction of a ballpark with a retractable roof.

The Tropicana, one of the oldest hotels on the Las Vegas Strip, will be demolished, according to reports. The Nevada Independent reported that Bally's intends to build a new 1,500-room hotel-casino across from the stadium once completed. The hotel-casino would be separate from the ballpark.

In a statement, Bally’s president George Papanier said the company is "honored" to be partnering with the Oakland Athletics on the project, calling the agreement a "monumental step in helping to bring Major League Baseball to the great city of Las Vegas."

Bally's also indicated that the ballpark would generate opportunities for additional development of the site, citing "massive, unlocked potential for iconic, global brands to partner and market one of the busiest intersections in the country."

The project remains subject to legislative approval, as well as the Oakland Athletics' approval of relocation from Major League Baseball.

Bally's acquired the Tropicana Las Vegas from GLPI in September 2022, with Bally's leasing the land underlying the hotel from GLPI as part of the transaction. The hotel is part of the DoubleTree by Hilton portfolio.
