Company facts

• Combination of direct sales of travel products to both corporate and leisure agents as well as host agency operations.

• Has a network of 413 travel advisors.

• 2021 sales split: 49% business travel, 47% leisure, 4% other.

• Privately held company with six managing partners.

2021 developments

• The need for flexibility has become a permanent component of everyday dealings.

• Renegotiated leases and contracts, consolidated offices, reduced hours where needed and laid off less than 8% of associates. These were short-term initiatives, as Uniglobe is now hiring associates as pre-pandemic business comes back and new accounts are implemented.

• 90% of organization works remote or hybrid.

• Joined Virtuoso network in 2020, enabling all offices to further develop luxury offerings to clients. This has been very valuable since leisure travel recovered first with clients spending more per person than years prior to the pandemic.

• Continued to invest in associate training at all levels.

• Continued to evaluate and invest in new technologies and formed relationships with Deem for another corporate booking tool option and Magnatech for additional risk-management options.

• Reviewed fee structure and made changes.

Looking ahead

• Cautiously optimistic for the balance of 2022.

• In February, achieved an uptick in corporate travel as mandates were relaxed. Clients are busy planning meetings and conferences. There is a wealth of opportunity for new business as corporations recognize the need for managed travel with flexibility.

• The trend for upscale leisure travel should continue as people want to enjoy life to its fullest. Average trip cost continues to rise.

• The current pace of travel bookings relative to Covid rates provides optimism that the industry will withstand additional waves and variants. Uniglobe believes only the most severe resurgence is likely to have a significant impact. The war in Ukraine has surpassed Covid as most likely to affect the industry for the remainder of the year. Depending on how it unfolds, it could have an impact on travel to and within Central and Eastern Europe, along with its already noticeable impact on energy prices affecting travel costs.
